Reviewed Sites

The following pages serve as a quick start to ICTaC or for your own professional development. These first reviews are of a general nature while you can look for content specific sites using the drop down menu.

http://www.locuta.com/

http://www.locuta.com/

This is a website which caters for Italian students which have a good proficiency in the language. It is based mostly on grammatical aspects of the language. I liked it, because it is well structured as it covers all the grammatical aspects.

The best thing about this website is that it contains a wide range of examples on every grammatical aspect. Unfortunately, I think that it lacks the punch that would be achieved if grammatical exercises where also included (as they are not).

This website mostly caters for students who wish to learn the Italian language by themselves. It is even useful for the teachers; but in order to put in practice (in our classes) these grammatical points, the teachers must find some motivating material to use in connection with the information found in the website.

The website is also advantageous because it contains certain links which allow you to hear conversations, poems and examples of how to pronounce some words.

The website is user friendly because the learning instructions are available in different languages including English, German and Spanish.

I encourage both students and teachers to take a look at this interesting website.

http://www.corriere.it/Piccoli/home.shtml

A language can’t be learnt just at school with 4 lessons a week! It is important to also practice the language, especially through reading. One can read books, magazines, newspapers but also articles from the internet. In Italy one of the most important newspapers is the Corriere della sera. The Corriere also have a very good website (www.corriere.it), but since some students might find it’s language difficult, the Corriere thought of a link for children; the Corriere dei piccoli online. It’s a very updated website that contains excellent articles on different topics, from culture to sport, from music to cinema. It’s language is much simpler than the normal Corriere and so students can understand and enjoy reading much of the articles present there.

One can also go to it’s archives, with past articles and news.

What I liked about this website is the fact that like a normal newspaper one can choose what to read according to his likes, with the advantage that it is updated regularly and has a simpler Italian.

www.spanish.about.com
Are you keen to learn Spanish? Then why not learn it on your own through internet! Therefore, if you are a beginner you have come to the right website. Indexed on the bottom of the site there are a series of brief lessons and other resources that will introduce you to basic concepts and help you to expand your vocabulary. The ideal way to learn from this website is to supply yourself with books or other materials or links. On the second page you can also view the list of the lessons in a recommended order. Many of the lessons are also suitable for intermediate students. If you look around the site www.spanish.about.com you will also see plenty of other resources that should be useful for the beginning student. The pages indexed below are designed to be used either as a reference or as a course for learning.

After you have learned some basic Spanish you can switch to learn it through other media as CD, cassette, videos etc. This website can also help teachers to introduce the language to the students in a friendly manner as it provides them with lesson plans together with creative resources.

I believe that this website would be of great help to both students and teachers who wish to learn and teach one of the most beautiful languages.

http://corso.italica.rai.it/
I found this website extremely useful, as it is divided in different stages:
1. Beginners (principiante)
2. Intermediate (intermedio)
3. Advanced (avanzato)

Thanks to this the students can choose the level most suitable to them. This is a useful tool even for the teachers as they can programme their lesson plans according to their students’ level.
Besides this, it’s important to note that the website is user friendly because it allows the user to follow the instructions using the language he prefers.

After choosing the level and language you prefer, the student can choose the type of exercise he wishes to work out. These exercises can be subdivided into grammar exercises, communicative exercises and lexical exercises.

One of the most important things in learning a language is having good communication skills. In fact the best thing on this website is that it contains many communicative exercises which then lead to wide range of grammar exercises.
This website is very useful for language learners as it enhances your abilities in the four language skills.
I hope teachers and learners will follow my footsteps and visit this website, and eventually realize its major advantages.
