1. The Microsoft Paint Interface

The interface

Painting software allows artists to create original pictures on a screen.

You can create simple drawings using the different tools available on screen.  You can also insert pictures and include them in your drawings.  The diagram below shows the Microsoft Paint Interface.

The toolbox below appears on the left hand side of the screen.  Here you can use different tools to enhance your drawing. 

Fill in the blank spaces using the correct tool name.

Selecting part of a picture

To select part of a Picture

In the toolbox click select tool to select a rectangular area, and then drag the pointer diagonally across the area

Copy and paste part of a picture

To Copy and Paste part of a picture

  • In the toolbox click   to select a rectangular area.
  • Drag the pointer to select the are you want to copy
  • Select the method of Pasting:

    • On the Edit menu, click Copy.
    • On the Edit menu, click Paste
    • Drag the selection where you want it.

brush toolWhen using the  brush you can select a brush type from the bottom of the toolbox.

 

   
Line Tool

line toolWhen using the line tool you can select the line thickness from the bottom of the toolbar as well.  You can draw a perfectly horizontal, vertical, or 45-degree diagonal line by holding down SHIFT while dragging.

When one selects the airbrush tool s/he is offered a choice of three sizes.  The smaller the size the lesser the area covered and more colour density while the larger the size, the more area covered but less dense.

4. Setting different colours on the Palette

Examples of Search Engines

Microsoft Paint has a limited colour palette (28 colours in colour bar).  Still you can change the available ones or add new custom colours.

1. In the colour bar, double click the colour you want to change:
2. Click Define Custom colour

3.Choose a new colour from the right hand side. 

4. Click Add to Custom Colours, and then click OK.

5. Importing and Exporting Selections

You may need to insert a smaller picture such as a logo into the working area of Microsoft Paint.

  1. On the Edit Menu, click Paste From
  2. Locate and double click the file you want to insert.      
  3. Drag the bitmap to position it where you want it.

6. Saving part of a picture

Saving images

You may also need to save part of a picture into another file.

  1. Select the rectangular area you want to export.

  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy to.

  3. Specify a folder and a file name, and then Click Save
